Sharon Garin takes oath as DOE chief

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday administered the oath of office to former lawmaker Sharon Garin as secretary of the Department of Energy.

The oath taking ceremony took place this morning, according to the Presidential Communications Office.

Garin, who has been serving as DOE officer-in-charge since May 2025, replaced Raphael Lotilla, who was appointed as secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Before she was appointed as OIC, Garin served as an undersecretary of the DOE since 2022.

In a media statement, Garin said she will continue with reforms laid down by her predecessor, with programs such as the Green Energy Auction.

“I would like to assure the members of the energy family and our partners in the public and private sectors of the Department’s steadfast commitment to the continuity of energy sector policies and reform initiatives,” she said.

“These include the acceleration of renewable energy development, the expansion of electrification efforts, the enhancement of energy resiliency, and the continued strengthening of our investment climate,” she added.

Garin holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management (Accounting) from the University of the Philippines – Iloilo.

She also holds a Juris Doctor from the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from ESADE Business School in Spain.

Prior to her appointment as chief of the DOE, Garin represented the AAMBIS-Owa Partylist in the House of Representatives from 2010 to 2022.

She served as deputy speaker from 2016 to 2019, chaired the House Committee on Economic Affairs from 2019 to 2020, and again chaired the committee from 2021 to 2022. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
