No tsunami threat after strong Alaska quake, says PHIVOLCS

There is no tsunami threat to the country following the strong earthquake that occurred at the Alaska Peninsula early Thursday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The 7.2 earthquake shook the Alaska Peninsula at 4:38 a.m., Manila time.

"No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data," said PHIVOLCS in an advisory.

"This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake." — BAP, GMA Integrated News
