No tsunami threat in PH after strong quake off Russian Pacific coast — PHIVOLCS


The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has advised that there is no tsunami threat in the country following the magnitude 7.5 earthquake in Kamchatka, Russia on Sunday afternoon.

In an advisory, PHIVOLCS said the earthquake off the east coast of Kamchatka in Russia was recorded at 2:49 p.m. Philippine time.

The depth of the earthquake was recorded at 77 kilometers, according to PHIVOLCS.

The agency said "hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 km of the earthquake epicenter."

“This is for information purposes only and there is no destructive tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake,” PHIVOLCS said.  — RF, GMA Integrated News
