NGCP raises yellow alert over Visayas grid
A yellow alert has been raised over the Visayas power grid for Tuesday afternoon and evening amid forced outages of several power plants, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said.
According to the NGCP, the yellow alert is effective from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The demand in power in the Visayas is high but supply is limited due to forced outages of several power plants.
“Twelve plants have been on forced outage from April to August and six other power plants out since 2023; while eight are on derated capacities, for a total of 744MW unavailable to the grid,” the NGCP said.
The Visayas grid is composed of the interconnected island grids of Cebu, Negros, Panay, Leyte, Samar, and Bohol. It accounts for 14% of the country's power demand, according to the NGCP website.
A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
Meanwhile, the NGCP said Luzon and Mindanao grids are under normal condition. —Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
