Digital National ID for senior citizens rolled out

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) have teamed up for the rollout of the digital version of the National ID for senior citizens within the government’s flagship platform eGovPH Super app.

NCSC chairperson Mary Jean Loreche and DICT Secretary Henry Aguda led the launch of the initiative at the Manila Hotel on Friday.

The digital national senior citizen ID was aimed at streamlining the access of Filipino senior citizens to their rights and benefits such as discounts, healthcare services, transportation, and retail advantages.

“Sa pamamagitan ng Digital Senior Citizen ID sa eGovPH app, wala nang mahabang pila, biyahe, o pabalik-balik sa opisina. Kapag ikaw ay umabot na sa edad na 60 at may National ID, awtomatikong lalabas na ang iyong Digital Senior Citizen ID—parang magic! Hindi mo na kailangan ng three wishes mula kay Genie,” Aguda said.

(Through the Digital Senior Citizen ID within the eGovPH app, there will be no more long lines, commutes, or going back and forth to offices. When you turn 60 years of age and you have a National ID, your Digital Senior Citizen ID will automatically appear— like magic!)

Loreche said that the digital version of the senior citizen ID will benefit about nine million seniors, representing about 8% of the population who heavily rely on physical cards to avail of their mandated benefits under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
