The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) proposed a P65.7 billion budget for the Judiciary under the National Expenditure Program (NEP) for next year.

Of this, the Supreme Court and the lower courts will get P56.6 billion

According to the NEP, this will be divided to P37 billion for personnel services, P13 billion for maintenance and other operating expenses, and P5.5 billion for capital outlays.

Meanwhile, P2 billion was proposed for the Sandiganbayan, P5.6 billion to the Court of Appeals, and P1 billion for the Court of Tax Appeals, and P164 million for the Presidential Electoral Tribunal.

Under the 2025 General Appropriations Act, the judiciary received P62 billion.

Last week, the DBM submitted the proposed P6.793-trillion to the House of Representatives.

The legislative body, holding the “power of the purse,” is now set to start deliberating on the proposed budget allocations set by the executive branch for 2026 after the submission of the DBM. —KG, GMA Integrated News
