Bonoan open to rotating district engineers of DPWH

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manny Bonoan on Tuesday welcomed the proposal of Senator JV Ejercito to enforce a revamp among the agency's district engineers. 

''Ongoing naman. Actually marami kaming ni-rorotate ngayon na mga district engineers so I think, siguro napapanahon na nga siguro… Pag-isip-isipan namin 'yung mga ganyang pagro-rotate,'' Bonoan said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

(This is ongoing. Actually we have rotated a number of district engineers. So I think it's time to rethink that rotation.)

According to Bonoan, there is also a policy indicating that district engineers should be rotated every three years. 

Ejercito had called for the arrest of big personalities linked to irregularities in flood control projects, raising a possible "collusion" between government officials and private contractors. 

Ejercito, who serves as Senate deputy majority leader, stressed that there is “a special place in hell” reserved for those who are engaged in ghost and fraudulent flood control projects in the country. 

Bonoan confirmed that he would attend the Senate blue ribbon committee hearing on alleged irregularities in flood control projects, saying the DPWH has already begun inspections across the country. 

Last week, President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. launched a website where the public can report on questionable flood control projects.

Marcos disclosed that 20% of the P545-billion budget for flood control projects was awarded to only 15 contractors, five of whom have contracts across the country. 

Marcos recently sought explanation from St. Timothy Construction Corp. regarding its supposed failed flood control project in Calumpit Bulacan, which was hit by floods, with residents of several barangays forced to wade through flood water for at least two weeks. —KG, GMA Integrated News
