NDRRMC operations center raises 'blue alert' due to TD Isang

The operations center of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Friday upgraded its alert status from white to blue as it stepped up preparations for the potential effects of Tropical Depression Isang.

In a Facebook post, the NDRMMC said the status change sought to "closely monitor, consolidate and to ensure prompt coordination with concerned agencies and offices."

The order for the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center (NDRRMOC) took effect starting 12 noon Friday.

"It is the raising of alert status of the NDRRMOC primarily in preparation for a slow onset disaster or in anticipation of situation escalation, requiring selected duty personnel," the post read.

Primary or lead personnel from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) shall render duty at the Operations Center, complemented by detailed duty officers.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over 17 areas as Isang is expected to traverse Northern Luzon, weather bureau PAGASA said in its 11 a.m. bulletin on Friday.

Classes on Friday, August 22, have also been suspended in some areas.

Meanwhile, several roads in Metro Manila experienced flooding. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
