Work in first, second level courts in parts of NCR suspended due to bad weather — SC

The Supreme Court (SC) announced that work in all first and second level courts is suspended on Friday, August 22 in some areas in Metro Manila due to inclement weather and flooding.

In a memorandum, the SC said that court work is suspended in the following areas starting at 1 p.m.:

  • Mandaluyong
  • Makati
  • Manila
  • Muntinlupa
  • Pasay
  • Taguig

However, the SC said this does not include courts where bail, orders of release or other extremely urgent matters need to be processed.

“Lawyers and litigants must also be notified of the work suspension. All courts in these areas must remain reachable, as much as possible, via their respective hotline numbers and/or official email addresses to address urgent matters such as applications for bail,” the SC said.

“Nonetheless, judges who have scheduled hearings may continue to conduct such hearings despite the early dismissal,” it added.

The SC also directed the executive judges of the affected areas to submit a report to the Assistant Court Administrator on the status of their courts.

Earlier in the day, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over 17 areas as Isang is expected to traverse Northern Luzon, according to PAGASA.

Classes for Friday, August 22 have also been suspended in some areas.  — Joahna Lei Casilao/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
