Isang, Habagat affected over 50K people — NDRRMC

Tropical Cyclone Isang and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat have affected a total of 50,678 people or 11,374 families in different regions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.

In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said the affected population was recorded in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Bicol Region, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The region with the most number of affected individuals was BARMM with 24,911 people or 5,013 families.

Of the total affected population, the NDRRMC said 1,203 people or 329 families were staying in evacuation centers while 24,075 people or 4,815 families were taking shelter in other places.

The floods in 27 areas in the National Capital Region (NCR) have subsided but three affected areas in BARMM remain flooded. The 10 affected road sections and two affected bridges became passable again to motorists.

A total of two houses were partially damaged in CAR and Soccsksargen due to the impact of Isang and Habagat.

Classes in 131 areas and work schedule in one area were suspended due to the threat of the bad weather.

Assistance worth P1,706,045 has been provided so far to the victims, according to the NDRRMC.

On August 22, a low pressure area (LPA) developed as Tropical Depression Isang and made landfall over Casiguran, Aurora. Then, Isang crossed Quirino and Ifugao.
