Marcos still trusts Bonoan as DPWH chief — Palace

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan still enjoys the trust of President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. amid issues on ghost and anomalous flood control projects.

''Sa ngayon, wala naman pong nababanggit na anuman ang Pangulo so kung mayroon mang magiging aksiyon patungkol kay Secretary Bonoan, hintayin na lamang po natin. Pero as of the moment, nandiyan pa rin po ang trust niya,'' Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said at a briefing Wednesday.

(For now, the President has not mentioned any action yet as regards Secretary Bonoan. Let's just wait. But as of the moment, his trust is still there.)

Earlier, it was reported that former DPWH chief Rogelio Singson had received feelers from Malacañang offering him to return as the agency's secretary.

Singson said he had turned down the offer.

Singson served as the DPWH chief from July 2010 to June 2016 under the administration of the late Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III.

Bonoan earlier said he would leave the decision to the President if he needs to take a leave amid the probe into the alleged corruption in flood control projects.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian earlier said Bonaon should voluntarily leave his post as DPWH chief "out of delicadeza."

For his part, Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada said "heads must roll" amid the Senate blue ribbon committee's investigation into anomalous flood control projects.

Estrada even floated the possibility that Bonoan might not have any idea of what's really happening on the ground. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
