Nartatez mulls reshuffle of PNP key officials

Philippine National Police (PNP) acting chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez said he is studying to implement a possible reshuffle of key officials in the police organization.

In an interview, Nartatez was asked if there are expected major changes in the key positions in the coming days.

“If we were talking about changes, we will study nga kung the organization is working. Kung sa bawat isa ba ay nagtatrabaho ang commander. We'll audit yung unit,” he said.

On Tuesday, Nartatez replaced former PNP chief Police General Torre III after the latter supposedly failed to obey the order of the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) to reverse his appointments dated August 5.

Under the appointment order by Torre, Nartatez as PNP's deputy chief for administration was reassigned as commander of the Area Police Command (APC) Western Mindanao.

Nartatez said he will follow the guidance of the NAPOLCOM to reverse Torre’s order concerning 11 more police officials.

“The Chief PNP is a sitting member of the NAPOLCOM in ex-officio capacity. So voting yun, may boses yun doon,” Nartatez said.

(The Chief PNP is a sitting member of the NAPOLCOM in ex-officio capacity. So that's voting, the Chief PNP has a voice there.)

“There was a NAPOLCOM resolution. I need to tackle it with the board. I will tackle that with NAPOLCOM. At for sure, i-implement natin yan,” he added.

PNP spokesperson

Asked if the PNP will have a new spokesperson, Nartatez said:

“The spokesperson, the Public Information Office, nandyan na kanilang lahat yun. So all the repository of reports, nandyan sa kanya. And hinihimay niya yan so it will be ready to the public katulad niyo kung mayroon kayong tinatanong. Nasa kanya yun,” he said.

(The spokesperson, the Public Information Office, they all have it there. So all the repository of reports they have it there. And he organizes it so it will be ready for the public just like you if you have questions. It's with him.)

“So bakit mayroon pa tayong spokesperson? He's the spokesperson,” he added.

(So why do we still have a spokesperson? He's the spokesperson.”

Nartatez said he will study the matter as PNP’s Directorate for Comptrollership director Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo is currently the designated spokesperson for the police organization. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
