Over 200K people affected by Habagat, Jacinto, LPA — NDRRMC
A total of 201,465 people or 41,297 families in different parts of the country were affected by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, Tropical Cyclone Jacinto, and a low pressure area, as of Monday.
In its report that covered the period from August 22 to 28, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the affected communities were located in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Most of the affected people were recorded in BARMM with 140,060, followed by Bicol with 27,379 and Zamboanga Peninsula with 18,956.
Of the affected population, 5,067 persons or 1,126 families stayed in evacuation centers while 153,225 persons or 30,645 families were taking temporary shelter in other places.
Incidents of flooding, landslides, falling debris, and tornado were reported in some of the affected areas.
The NDRRMC said the three persons initially reported as missing have been found and have safely arrived in their respective homes.
A total of 445 houses were damaged— 425 partially and 20 totally. Damage to infrastructure worth P700,000 was also reported.
Two of 17 affected roads remained impassable. One affected bridge became passable again.
Power interruption was reported in one area.
Classes in 378 areas and work scheduled in 343 areas were suspended due to the threat of bad weather.
Assistance worth P2,939,615 has been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC. — RF, GMA Integrated News
