Marcos to disclose composition, power of independent commission in next 48 hours

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said Tuesday that the power and composition of the independent commission, which will look into anomalous flood control projects, would be disclosed in the next 48 hours.

Marcos said this during a press conference with the Philippine media delegation in Cambodia.

''Tomorrow or the day after, within the next 48 hours, I will already announce the powers that we are granting to the independent commission and the members of the independent commission,'' Marcos said.

Marcos added there was a suggestion that the body would be given contempt powers aside from subpoena powers.

The President, who is in Cambodia for a state visit, earlier said an executive order (EO) would be issued, creating an independent commission that will investigate the substandard, if not ghost flood control projects.

He had said the independent body will be completely separate from the government, and will be comprised of a lawyer or a justice, an investigator, and a forensic accountant who will be working with all government agencies—primarily with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for the investigation aspect, and the Commission on Audit (COA) for information.

The body will also have a recommendatory role, and is expected to submit its findings to the Department of Justice (DOJ) or to the Office of the Ombudsman for the proper filing of cases, Marcos had said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
