Marcos wants more Walang Gutom Kitchens across PH —DSWD
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. wants the Department of Social Welfare and Development to establish more food bank-soup kitchens across the country to address hunger, Secretary Rex Gatchalian said on Thursday.
Marcos, together with Gatchalian, visited the Walang Gutom Kitchen in Pasay City.
According to Gatchalian, Marcos wanted to check the operations of the DSWD's food bank - soup kitchen.
''The President has made it mission number 1 of DSWD to end hunger, and this kitchen is part and parcel of achieving that goal. The President wants us to open more food bank - soup kitchens nationwide to combat hunger,'' Gatchalian said.
The DSWD is targeting to register a total of 750,000 food-poor families for the Walang Gutom Program (WGP) by next year.
Currently, the WGP, which highlights the P20 per kilo rice, is implemented only in Metro Manila, Cebu, and the CARAGA region, Dumlao said.
Poor families in the BARMM are also set to be given priority, the DSWD said. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
