Ex-PCO chief Cheloy Garafil named House secretary general
Former Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cheloy Garafil will serve as the new secretary general of the House of Representatives.
This was confirmed to GMA News Online by sitting House secretary general Reginald Velasco.
''The new sec gen will be Ms. Cheloy Garafil, starting today,'' Velasco said.
Garafil's appointment came following the change in leadership of the House of Representatives.
Garafil’s assumption as new House Secretary General was formalized after she was unanimously elected to her new post during the House’s plenary session on Tuesday.
Aside from Garafil, retired Brigadier General Ferdinand Melchor de la Cruz of the Philippine Army was also elected as the new Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives, replacing Police Major General Napoleon “Nap” Taas
It was House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte Representative Sandro Marcos, son of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who put forward the motion for the election of Garafil and Dela Cruz to their respective posts.
Garafil and Dela Cruz subsequently took their oath before Speaker Dy after their election in the same plenary session. — with Llanesca T. Panti/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
