Saudi envoy touts PH ties, humanitarian cooperation on 95th National Day
Saudi Ambassador to the Philippines Faisal Ebraheem Alghamdi underscored the deepening partnership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Philippines, highlighting humanitarian aid, education, and people-to-people exchanges during the Embassy’s reception marking the Kingdom’s 95th National Day on Tuesday.
Speaking before Philippine officials, diplomats, and members of the private sector, Alghamdi said ties between the two nations, established in 1969, have flourished into a “distinguished model of genuine partnership founded on mutual respect and shared interests.”
He noted that more than one million Filipinos contribute to Saudi Arabia’s development, while thousands of Filipino pilgrims travel each year to fulfil their religious rites with ease and comfort. Tourism has also expanded, with 150,700 visas issued by the Embassy since the start of 2025.
Alghamdi cited the humanitarian dimension of bilateral relations, recalling the Kingdom’s long-running medical program for the separation of conjoined twins, which has benefited Filipino patients in 2004, 2024, and most recently this year with Kleah and Maureen Ann.
He also pointed to the ongoing work of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, which is currently implementing 16 projects worth over $5.8 million in the Philippines.
Education remains a key area of cooperation, with Saudi Arabia granting 265 scholarships to Filipino students for the academic year 2025–2026.
"This initiative reflects the Kingdom’s enduring commitment to strengthening cultural and educational relations with the Philippines,” Alghamdi said.
He stressed that Saudi Arabia’s progress under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has been matched by its contributions to global peace, stability, and development. “Our celebration today is not merely a remembrance of a glorious past—it is a renewal of our pledge to work for the future,” he said.
On behalf of Riyadh’s leadership, Alghamdi also extended greetings to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Filipino people, expressing hopes for “continued progress and prosperity” in the Philippines and stronger bilateral cooperation in the years ahead.
