Dismissed Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan first district engineer Henry Alcantara and former assistant engineers Brice Hernandez and Jaypee Mendoza on Wednesday arrived at the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to testify on anomalous flood control projects.
This came just hours after DPWH said it has requested the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) to freeze nearly half a billion pesos worth of luxury vehicles of personalities involved in alleged anomalous flood control projects.
In an interview, ICI adviser and Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said Hernandez will surrender his Lamborghini to the ICI today.
“Alam ko ngayong araw na ito (I know this is today),” he said.
“I-take custody muna ng ICI and then eventually may proper disposition naman ‘yun… in accordance with law,” he added.
(The ICI will take custody for now and then there will be a proper disposition, in accordance with the law.)
Last week, Hernandez already surrendered one of his luxury vehicles to the ICI.
Following this, Hernandez and Mendoza arrived at the DOJ to turnover a computer CPU that contains evidence on anomalous flood control projects.
They were escorted by police officers.
During the Senate hearing on Tuesday, Hernandez admitted that all projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in their engineering office in Bulacan, which include flood control projects, are substandard.
He also said that he delivered an estimated P1 billion worth of money placed in suitcases to a staffer of Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla previously said that Hernandez will be evaluated for the Witness Protection Program.
Meanwhile, Alcantara bared that he worked with DPWH Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo in giving commissions off flood control projects to the the camps of Senators Jinggoy Estrada, Joel Villanueva, former senator Bong Revilla, Jr., Co, and former Caloocan representative Mitch Cajayon.
They lawmakers have denied the allegations against them.
After the evaluation of his testimony at the Department of Justice, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) recommended the filing of charges against these individuals, except for Revilla. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
