Opong heads to Mindoro Island; 7 areas under Signal No. 3
Severe Tropical Storm Opong has maintained its strength after passing over Sibuyan and Tablas Islands in Romblon as it now heads to Mindoro Island, according to PAGASA.
Opong was last spotted over the coastal waters of Ferrol, Romblon packing maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 150 km/h, and a central pressure of 985 hPa.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon continues to be enhanced by Opong and will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas:
• Today: Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Palawan, Visayas, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Caraga Region, and Davao Region.
• Tomorrow (27 September): Luzon and Western Visayas.
"After making landfall over San Fernando, Romblon and Alcantara, Romblon at 8:10 AM and 9:20 AM today respectively, OPONG will continue moving west northwestward and may make landfall over the southern portion of Occidental Mindoro by noon or early afternoon today," PAGASA said in its latest advisory.
PAGASA added that Opong will likely remain as a severe tropical storm and that re-intensification is "highly likely."
Opong is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday afternoon.
Impact
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is verifying reports of four deaths in the Bicol Region due to Opong. Six people have also been reported missing in Eastern Visayas.
"We got an information na meron na apat sa Bicol, but these are still for validation. And we have more or less 6 reported missing sa Region 8," said an OCD official during a press briefing on Friday.
Some transmission lines were rendered unavailable amid strong winds and heavy rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Opong.
Classes and government work have been suspended on Friday in preparation for possible impact of Opong.
