Suspected Chinese rocket debris found in waters off Palawan —PCG
Suspected rocket debris allegedly related to China's latest Long March rocket launch were found by fishermen in waters off Cuyo, Palawan, the Philippine Coast Guard said.
PCG spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Commodore Jay Tarriela said following the discovery of the debris near Barangay Fundo, the barangay immediately informed the Coast Guard Eastern Palawan and local authorities to secure the area, according to a report by Christian Maño on Super Radyo dzBB.
Initial investigation revealed the debris were related to the latest Long March rocket launch conducted by China last September 16 for space exploration, including satellite deployment and technological advancement.
The debris were immediately brought to the Coast Guard Eastern Palawan for safekeeping and were turned over to the Philippine Space Agency for detailed analysis, verification and assessment.
The PCG appealed to the public to immediately inform authorities about any sightings of alleged rocket debris, and to avoid contact with suspected rocket debris due to possible safety hazard. —Jamil Santos/KG, GMA Integrated News
