Insincere, complacent: DOJ official slams Sarah Discaya’s actions

Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson Mico Clavano has slammed Sarah Discaya's finger heart sign and remarks she made as the latter was placed under the agency’s Witness Protection Program.

"The heart sign and the remarks of Ms. Sarah Discaya are all taken into account in the assessment and evaluation of the persons involved," Clavano said in a statement on Saturday.

"It is a sign of insincerity and complacency," he added.

The Justice official made the statement after Sarah and her husband, contractor Pacifico "Curlee" Discaya II returned to the DOJ for the continuation of the government's case buildup regarding alleged anomalous flood control projects.

The Discaya couple and their lawyer declined to issue statements, but Sarah made a finger heart to members of the media as she entered the DOJ headquarters.

Later, when she was about to leave, reporters asked Sarah about how her appointment at the DOJ went. She replied: "Gandahan n'yo memes ko (Make good memes about me.)"

The Discayas were placed under the DOJ's Witness Protection Program, along with former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineers Henry Alcantara, Brice Hernandez, and Jaypee Mendoza.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, however, has clarified that they are not yet considered state witnesses as these are considered free from criminal liability. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
