NDRRMC: Reported death toll due to Habagat, Mirasol, Nando, Opong now 27

The reported death toll due to the combined effects of the recent Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and tropical cyclones Mirasol, Nando, and Opong rose to 27, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.

Twenty-three of the reported fatalities are for validation, while four have already been confirmed, the NDRRMC said in its situational report.

The number of those reported injured remained at 33 (14 validated and 19 for validation), while those reported missing went up to 16, all for validation.

Meanwhile, 906,794 families or 3,420,391 persons were affected by the weather disturbances.

A total of 30,265 families or 106,561 persons sought shelter in 1,607 evacuation centers while 22,771 families or 84,240 persons were served outside evacuation centers, the NDRRMC said.

The weather disturbances caused flooding in 370 areas, with 282 of these already subsided.

Meanwhile, 287 road sections and 55 bridges were affected. As of Monday, 47 roads and 13 bridges were still not passable.

Power outage was reported in 225 cities and municipalities. So far, 159 areas had their power supply restored.

Of the 16 cities and municipalities whose water supply were affected, 12 already had theirs restored.

As for communication lines, 37 cities and municipalities were affected. Thirty-three of these are still without communication.

Meanwhile, 178 seaports were affected by the weather disturbances. Thirty-five seaports are still non-operational or have canceled trips.

Those stranded numbered 2,606 passengers, 928 rolling cargoes, and 21 vessels.

"A total of 16,911 damaged houses are reported in Region 1, Region 2, CAR, Region 3, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Region 5, Region 6, Region 9, BARMM," the NDRRMC said.

Of this number, 2,600 houses were totally damaged.

Infra, agri damage

Agricultural production loss stood at P1,010,015,541.40, equivalent to 86,207.68 metric tons in production loss.

Some 37,012 farmers and fisherfolk were affected by the weather disturbances.

"The estimated cost of damage to infrastructure amounting to Php 979,609,901.08 was reported in Region 1, Region 2, CAR, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Region 5, Region 6, Region 7," the NDRRMC said.

Majority of the infrastructure damage were in Region 1 which had 77, equivalent to P773,247,537.50 cost of damage.

The Department of Education reported on Saturday that 1,370 classrooms were damaged due to Opong and the Southwest Monsoon. 

Of the total number, 891 classrooms have minor damage, 225 sustained major damage, and 254 were totally damaged.

Fifty-three cities and municipalities meanwhile declared a state of calamity.

Assistance

The government estimated that 384,221 families needed assistance costing P156,775,658.33.

Close to 50% or 183,788 families have already been assisted, according to the NDRRMC. —KG, GMA Integrated News
