MANILA, Philippines - A group of public transport operators on Monday renewed their call for the resignation of Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairman Thompson Lantion whom they accused of being more concerned about publicity than standing by his decision. This came after the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) deferred the implementation of the 50-centavo provisional fare hike for public utility vehicles that the LTFRB approved Sunday. “He (Lantion) should resign because he cannot stand firm on his decision… He only wants publicity…” Efren de Luna, president of the Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (ACTO), said. To support his allegation, De Luna noted the timing of Lantion’s announcement, which he said was made on a Sunday when there is no office and that all media outfits can carry the story. “His announcement backfired at him, because instead of positive publicity he now needs to explain where his decision came from,” he said. “It is high time for the president to hear our request and replace the chairman with somebody that can effectively run the agency,” he added. - GMANews.TV
