Foreign envoys extend condolences to Cebu earthquake victims
Foreign envoys in Manila on Wednesday expressed sympathies to those affected by the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Bogo City, Cebu Tuesday night.
"Sad news overnight. Australia extends its condolences to those impacted by the Cebu earthquake. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those killed and injured," Australian Ambassador Marc Innes-Brown said.
European Union Ambassador Massimo Santoro, meanwhile, said the EU stands in solidarity with the Philippines.
"Our deepest sympathy and condolences for the victims who perished in the earthquake in Cebu," Santoro said.
Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya lamented the rise in casualties and the extent of damage caused by the powerful quake in the affected areas.
"My heartfelt sympathies go to the victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with you during these challenging times," Endo said.
Earlier, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported that the death toll due to the earthquake has increased to 60.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ordered various government agencies to mobilize and provide immediate aid to communities affected by the earthquake. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
