Bogo City provincial hospital reach full capacity in wake of Cebu earthquake

The provincial hospital in Bogo City, the epicenter of the Magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit Cebu on Tuesday night, has reached full capacity as patients and bodies arrived from the affected communities.

According to the report on "24 Oras" by GMA Regional TV’s Alan Domingo, ambulances and mortuary vehicles poured into the hospital compound from areas in northern Cebu.

Most of the fatalities logged are from Bogo City, the epicenter of the earthquake, with 30. It is followed by San Remegio with 22, Medellin with 10, Tabogon with 5, and Tabuelan with one.

“We need to transport patients here in Bogo because the hospital here is already full. They also need assistance in surgery, orthopedics,” Cebu Gov. Pam Baricuatro said.

A row of ten houses in Barangay Pulangbato, Bogo City, was crushed by falling walls. This led to seven deaths in the area, four of them members of the Catarman family.

Among the casualties was Lito Catarman’s pregnant daughter-in-law.

“I’m seeking financial help for the burial of my child and my grandchildren, that’s all I want for now,” he said emotionally.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development said that there are 27 affected families in the whole northern Cebu. DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said that family food packs, ready-to-eat meals, mobile kitchen, and water supply will be provided.

For his part, Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon has already ordered for the hastening of the repairs on Bogo Provincial Hospital, and on the roads and bridges. The damage to infrastructures is estimated at P2 billion. –Vince Angelo Ferreras/NB, GMA Integrated News
