8,000 flee in Aurora to evacuation centers, relatives from Paolo's wrath
Residents of Aurora faced strong winds and heavy downpour as Signal No. 4 was raised in the province earlier in the day due to tropical cyclone Paolo.
According to Sandra Aguinaldo’s report in “24 Oras” on Friday, the effects of Paolo were evident in the northern portion of Aurora, particularly in Casiguran and Dilasag, wherein Signal No. 3 was hoisted.
Sea trips were prohibited due to the dangerous situation in the sea. A fisherman safely returned to shore amid the rains. But a vessel that took shelter near a pier was not able to escape the storm.
A river in Barangay Minanga in Casiguran spilled over due to the continuous rains.
In Barangay Dibakong, also in Casiguran, residents in the coastal area were urged to evacuate.
At around 10 a.m, Signal No. 4 was hoisted over the northern portion of Aurora. Paolo’s wrath was heavily felt by the residents with stronger winds and rains.
Despite the threat of Paolo, some residents in the coastal area in Barangay Dibakong chose to stay at their homes.
While the family of Emily Labisig had already prepared some food and clothes, they remained at their residence.
“If it’s at night, we will surely evacuate, and the water is not that deep right now,” said Labisig.
Those who chose to evacuate are currently seeking temporary shelter in the barangay hall of Dibakong. Meanwhile, others stayed with their relatives.
According to the report, there are around 8,000 evacuees in the province of Aurora. Some are in evacuation centers while others are with relatives. –Vince Angelo Ferreras/NB, GMA Integrated News
