More than 200K individuals affected by Paolo —NDRRMC


Flooding in Calumpit, Bulacan due to Severe Tropical Storm Paolo

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Sunday said 70,575 families or 225,557 individuals were affected by Severe Tropical Storm Paolo (international name: Matmo).

A total of 3,940 families or 11,964 individuals sought shelter in 284 evacuation centers, while 2,997 families or 8,585 individuals were served outside evacuation centers, the NDRRMC said in its situational report.

No fatalities, injuries, or missing were reported, it added.

Paolo caused flooding in some areas in Region 1, Region 3, and Calabarzon. Twenty-three areas in Region 1 were still flooded on Sunday.

Meanwhile, 98 road sections and 34 bridges were affected by the storm. Twenty-seven road sections and 32 bridges remained not passable as of Sunday morning.

Power also went out in 53 cities and municipalities. Twenty-three areas already had their power supply restored.

Sixteen seaports meanwhile were affected by Paolo, which resulted in canceled trips. Two of these are already operational.

Meanwhile, a total of 176 passengers, 37 rolling cargoes, 32 vessels and seven motor bancas have been reported stranded as of Sunday.

Thirteen houses were reported damaged in the Cordillera Administrative Region.

A total of P389,566.10 in assistance was needed for 829 affected families. Of this number, 550 families were already assisted.

Paolo developed into a tropical depression on October 1, then intensified into a typhoon on October 3. 

It weakened into a severe tropical storm later on October 3, before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Oct. 4. —KG, GMA Integrated News
