DOH looking into issues hounding MAIFIP, health centers

The Department of Health (DOH) is conducting its own investigation on issues hounding the Medical Assistance to Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients (MAIFIP) Program and supposed ghost health centers, Health Secretary Teodoro "Ted" Herbosa said on Sunday.

According to Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, the DOH is already looking into anomalies involving the MAIFIP Program, which provides financial assistance for the medical expenses of eligible applicants.

“Several actions have been taken already and we continue to do case build up,” he said in a post on his X account on Sunday morning.

“We are looking at options to operationalize non-functioning completed health facilities,” he added, but did not elaborate.

Just last week, DOH budget sponsor and Bataan Representative Albert Garcia said that only 200 out of 600 health centers under the DOH’s Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP) are functioning, but these are due to lack of personnel and are not ghost projects. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
