DOTr: Waiting sheds to feature solar panels for lights, charging ports
Jeepney and bus stops will soon feature lights and charging ports, in addition to a modern look, for the safety and convenience of commuters, according to Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez.
Lopez said the PUV stops outside the Concepcion Elementary School and San Roque Park in Marikina would be the template for the waiting sheds
."May upuan para sa mga buntis, sa mga senior citizen, sa mga PWD (persons with disability) at talaga naman maaliwalas," Lopez said.
"Ito po ay powered by solar panels. PUV-friendly po ito, PWD-friendly, senior citizen-friendly," he added.
(They have benches for pregnant women, senior citizens, and PWDs, and they are comfortable. These are powered by solar panels, PUV-friendly po ito, PWD-friendly, and senior citizen-friendly.)
Aside from the wheelchair ramp, the PUV stop also has tactile pavement for the visually impaired.
Bollards were also installed to make the stops safer.
Marikina Mayor Maan Teodoro said the city currently has two of these modern PUV stops that would help in the campaign to encourage mobility among her constituents.
"This is very sustainable, and this is also in line with our program na gusto namin yung active mobility among our citizens ay talagang in full swing." –NB, GMA Integrated News
