Cebu earthquake death toll now at 74 —NDRRMC
The reported death toll in the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu on September 30 is now 74, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Thursday.
In its 6 a.m. report, the NDRRMC added that 559 people were also injured.
The affected population due to the earthquake reached 666,439 people or 189,620 families in Central Visayas. Of the affected population, 7,813 individuals were displaced.
Incidents of landslide, structural fire, collapsed structure, and chemical leak were reported due to the earthquake.
A total of 71,996 houses were damaged—67,027 partially and 4,969 totally. Also, 706 infrastructures were damaged.
Eight road sections and 20 bridges became impassable.
Power interruptions were still encountered in 48 of the 91 affected areas. Water supply problems were still reported in one of the eight affected areas. Also, communication line issues were still experienced in 10 of the 17 affected areas.
Operations remained suspended in two of the three affected seaports.
Classes in 115 areas and work schedules in 29 areas have been suspended due to the impact of the earthquake.
A state of calamity was declared in the entire province of Cebu.
Assistance worth P152,687,531 has been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
