3 nabbed in Pasay, Mandaluyong for selling repossessed cars

The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has arrested three suspects for allegedly selling repossessed cars at very low prices through online platforms.

According to Jun Veneracion’s report in “24 Oras” on Thursday, two of the suspects were nabbed in Pasay City and even yielded an unlicensed firearm, while another was apprehended in a follow-up operation in Mandaluyong City.

Police seized five vehicles from the suspects, who said they were unaware that there were issues with the vehicles that they are selling.

“Sabi sa amin, 'Sanla ito, naremata na. Pwede na ibenta.' Ayun ang sabi sa amin,” said one of the suspects.

(They told us, ‘This is mortgaged, it’s been foreclosed. It can be sold now.’ That’s what they told us.)

“Sumama lang po ako, nagfi-finance lang po ako,” another one said.

(I just tagged along with them. I’m just in charge of the financing.)

Another suspect also claimed that their gun was not functioning and that they will only use it in came anyone would attempt to harass them.

The PNP-HPG said they are investigating the possibility that the suspects are part of a larger group.

Police explained that the suspects are selling the bank-repossessed vehicles for very low prices online. Buying these vehicles might cause legal problems for the owners later on.

Bank-repossessed cars are usually sold through public auction.

“Kapag ito ay alarmado na sa PNP-HPG at sila ay na-spotan ng ating mga patroller, sila rin po ay magkakakaso,” said PNP-HPG spokesperson Police Lt. Nadame Malang.
