US sends aid to Mindanao earthquake victims


The United States has provided aid to the residents affected by the recent magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 earthquakes in Manay, Davao Oriental.

The aid includes over 137,000 family food packs and 500 emergency shelter kits.

In a social media post, US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson said they are coordinating with the Department of Social Welfare and Development to assess additional needs in Davao Oriental.  

“My heart goes out to all those affected by the Mindanao earthquake and recent natural disasters,” Carlson said.

Posted on their respective social media accounts, some foreign envoys also expressed sympathy to the earthquake victims.

“My heart goes out to all the families affected by the earthquake in Davao and the southern Philippines. In this moment of uncertainty, Japan stands with the Filipino people with hope, strength, and solidarity. Praying for the safety and quick recovery of communities across the region,” Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya said.

“Our thoughts are with those affected by the earthquakes in the Davao region. Australia commends the Philippines’ response and resilience in the face of multiple disaster events,” Ambassador to the Philippines Marc Innes-Brown said.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines hoped for the Davao Region’s swift recovery.

“We mourn the lives lost and extend our deepest sympathies to the families affected by the earthquake in Davao region. We sincerely hope for a swift recovery and rebuilding of homes and communities,” the Chinese Embassy in a separate social media post.

According to the recent National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council situational report, the consecutive earthquakes have so far left 8 dead and 395 injured. 

  The Davao Region and CARAGA have also incurred P100,258,000 worth of infrastructure damage with 273 damaged infrastructures.  —RF, GMA Integrated News
