Palace on rejection of Duterte's interim release: Let his team handle it
Malacañang on Monday said it is up to the legal team of former President Rodrigo Duterte to act on the International Criminal Court's rejection of their request for the interim release of the former state leader.
''Kung ano man po ang naging desisyon, hayaan na lang po natin ang mga abogado nila at mga parties diyan ang gumawa ng aksyon,'' Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said in a press briefing.
Castro maintained that President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. was not part of the case.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) had rejected the request of Duterte's defense counsel to grant interim release to the former leader, who is facing charges of crimes against humanity for murder and attempted murder before the tribunal.
In a 23-page decision on the defense counsel's request for interim release, all three magistrates of the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I found that Duterte's detention continued "to remain necessary under article 60(2) of the Statute based on each of the requirements set by article 58(1) of the Statute."
The decision was dated September 26. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
