Romualdez a state witness in flood control mess? Palace says it depends on his narratives
It will depend on the pieces of information that will be disclosed by Leyte Representative and former Speaker Martin Romualdez on whether he could be considered as a state witness in the flood control projects probe, Malacañang said on Tuesday.
This matter would also depend on the Department of Justice if he can be considered as a state witness.
''Depende sa kanyang magiging salaysay at kung ano po ang kaniyang mailalahad at depende na po rin iyan sa Department of Justice kung siya ba ay maituturing na isang state witness at ito naman po ay irirekomenda sa korte so lahat po iyan ay depende sa lahat ng mangyayari. So, hindi pa po natin masasabi kung siya’y puwedeng maging state witness o hindi,'' Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a briefing.
(It will depend on what he will say. This will also depend on the Department of Justice if he can be considered as a state witness and this matter will be recommended to a court, so it will really depend on what will happen. We cannot say yet if he can be a state witness or not.)
Romualdez earlier faced on Tuesday the Independent Commission for Infrastructure inquiry over his alleged involvement in the flood control mess, saying he has nothing to hide. He has denied all accusations against him.
''I am willing to do anything that will help speed up the investigation, because like every Filipino, I want the truth to be established without delay,” Romualdez, a lawyer, said.
Romualdez earlier denied involvement in securing kickbacks from flood control projects as alleged by contractor husband and wife Curlee and Sarah Discaya during the Senate inquiry into the flood control mess.
He denied similar allegations made by Orly Regala Guteza who identified himself as a former security consultant for resigned Ako Bicol party-list Representative Zaldy Co. —KG/AOL, GMA Integrated News
