Bureau of Customs to auction 13 luxury cars of Discayas — ICI
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) will be auctioning off 13 luxury vehicles of contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) said Thursday.
According to ICI Executive Director Brian Hosaka, the commission was informed by BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno that the vehicles lacked the proper paperwork.
"Which now gives them right, gives the right for them to auction it off. So in a couple of weeks, I think, according to Commissioner Nepomuceno," he said.
"They're just going through the process of approval with the DOF and they will be auctioning this off. In that case, there will be an immediate recovery," he added.
In October, the BOC issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention covering the 13 vehicles due to issues with the documents submitted by the Discayas.
The BOC estimated that P100 million in taxes were left unpaid when the Discaya couple acquired the 13 vehicles.
It also reported that the majority of the seized cars had no records of paid duties and taxes. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
