LOOK: Marcos visits quake victims in Cebu anew, inspects modular units
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Friday visited the ''Bayanihan Village,'' which is an inter-agency project in San Remigio, Cebu that was intended for families affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit the province last month.
This was the second visit of Marcos to the province to check the victims. His first visit was in Bogo City on October 2.
The village consists of 67 prefabricated modular units, serving as temporary shelters for affected families until such time that they are relocated to permanent residences, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 7 - Central Visayas.
Marcos also visited the Family Tents of DSWD wherein he engaged in the Women and Child-Friendly Spaces of the camp. He was joined by DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian and DSWD Field Office VII Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero during the visit.
Those temporarily staying in the village include displaced families whose houses were totally damaged by the earthquake and those whose homes are situated along fault lines or near sinkhole-prone areas.
The completed units will also function as evacuation camps, which will be managed by the DSWD’s Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) Cluster under its Disaster Response Operations.
The death toll in the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu last September 30 increased to 79, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday.
The NDRRMC also said 559 people were also injured.
Meanwhile, a total of 747,979 people or 216,947 families in Central Visayas were affected by the earthquake.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
