Filipinos rank corruption 2nd among top national concerns —OCTA
Following the controversy surrounding anomalous flood control projects, concerns regarding graft and corruption have ranked second among the top national concerns of Filipinos in the OCTA Research group’s latest survey released Monday.
OCTA said this is the first time that corruption entered the top five national issues in its Tugon ng Masa (TNM) surveys.
Based on the survey, concern over corruption rose by 18 points from 13% in July to 31% in September, the highest level of concern recorded.
“The sharp rise in corruption concerns indicates a growing public demand for integrity and accountability in government, as Filipinos increasingly turn their attention from just economic concerns to issues of governance,” OCTA said.
According to OCTA, calls to fight corruption are strongest in the National Capital Region with 53% while Mindanao scored the lowest with 18%.
Meanwhile, the survey results showed that controlling the increase in prices of basic goods and services ranked first with 48%, a slight decrease from 50%.
Ranked third were concerns on access to affordable food with 31%, followed by concern over wages at 27%, and creating more jobs at 23%.
OCTA said this is a non-commissioned survey.
It was conducted from September 25 to 30 with face-to-face interviews of 1,200 male and female adult respondents.
The survey has a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level while it has a ±6% margin of error for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
