With one RFID all tollways project, Marcos vows easy travel for Pinoys
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Tuesday highlighted the government's commitment to ensuring a smooth travel for travelers as the administration launches the Toll Collection System Interoperability Project, which is dubbed as ''One RFID, All Tollways.''
The project was launched at the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Toll Operation Building along SLEX North Bound in Sitio Latian, Barangay Mapagong in Calamba City, Laguna.
Marcos personally witnessed the online registration process for the Toll Collection System Interoperability Project by visiting RFID (radio frequency identification) service providers Autosweep and Easytrip.
''This project has been made possible because of the continued trust, commitment, and flexibility of our partner concessionaires, the operators, and ETC/RFID providers,'' Marcos said in his speech.
''Years of consultation and cooperation with the DOTr (Department of Transportation) and the Toll Regulatory Board have finally led us to a unified system that responds to the real needs of our motorists,'' he added, noting that the registration for this system is free.
Marcos mentioned that concerned agencies have since worked to ensure that travel for Filipinos would be easier and more comfortable.
''And true to the spirit of public service, you worked hand in hand not because you needed to, but because you wanted to make sure that the travel for all Filipinos is made easier,'' Marcos said.
The President said the government tries to emulate some of the systems that many Filipinos who traveled abroad have seen.
Under this project, the voluntary registration enables subscribers who regularly use multiple toll expressways to unify their experience under a single, interoperable system.
Early adopters can also keep their current accounts while opting into the new unified RFID, which minimizes the need for multiple tags and wallets at toll plazas.
In a separate post, the Department of Transportation advised the public on how to register with this new system:
- Opt-in online and choose your preferred RFID Service Provider;
- Remove the unchosen RFID sticker at the authorized customer service centers; and
- Load up your chosen RFID account.
This unified system can be used in the following Luzon toll expressways: Skyway, South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), STAR Tollway, Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway (TPLEX), Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway (NAIAx), Muntinlupa–Cavite Expressway (MCX), North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), NLEX Connector, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (CAVITEX), and C5 Southlink. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
