Davao Oriental earthquake death toll now 10 — NDRRMC
The reported death toll in the magnitude 7.4 and 6.8 doublet earthquakes in Manay, Davao Oriental last October 10 has increased to 10, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.
In its 6 a.m. report, the NDRRMC added that 176 people were also reported injured.
A total of 1,511,854 people or 362,789 families were affected by the earthquake in Davao Region and Caraga.
Of the affected population, 2,260 people or 679 families were staying in evacuation centers, while 192 people or 52 families were taking shelter in other places.
A total of 25,603 houses were damaged — 24,413 partially and 1,190 totally. Also, 678 infrastructures worth P143,403,106 were damaged due to the earthquake.
Two of the 10 affected bridges remained impassable.
Water supply problems were still experienced in two of the three affected areas.
Classes in 163 areas and work schedules in 152 areas have been suspended due to the earthquake's impact.
A state of calamity was declared in Davao Oriental.
Assistance worth P98,588,855 has been provided to the victims so far, according to the NDRRMC. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
