PNP, ICI tackle enhancing flood control corruption probe

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday it had a meeting with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) in connection with the probe into anomalous flood control projects.

In a statement, the PNP said its concerned technical and investigative units took part in the coordination meeting organized by the ICI at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City on Tuesday.

“The discussion focused on enhancing information-sharing and system integration among partner agencies in connection with the ICI’s ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in government flood control and related infrastructure projects,” the PNP said.

During the meeting, the PNP told the ICI that the police organization is ready to extend assistance, particularly in technical and investigative support, to ensure that the process is transparent, data-driven, and properly documented.

These efforts include the areas of engineering verification, forensic validation, and information systems development.

“Rest assured, the PNP’s involvement in this undertaking will always be guided by professionalism, fairness, and adherence to due process—consistent with our mandate to serve and protect the Filipino people and strengthen public trust in government institutions,” the PNP said.

The ICI on September 19 opened its investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.

On September 11, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) filed a graft complaint with the Ombudsman against 20 officials of the agency and four contractors over anomalous flood control projects.

Out of the 8,000 initially inspected flood control projects, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said that at least 421 were ghost projects as of October 6. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
