AFP scores high trust, satisfaction ratings among Pinoys in OCTA poll
Majority of adult Filipinos have expressed their high trust and satisfaction with the performance of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), according to a recent survey by OCTA Research.
Based on the results of their Sept. 25 to 30, 2025 Tugon ng Masa survey conducted through face-to-face interviews of 1,200 respondents, 73% of Filipinos said they trusted the AFP, while 73% of the respondents expressed satisfaction with the military’s performance.
Support for the AFP was more pronounced in Mindanao at 84% and in the National Capital Region with 82%.
OCTA Research said their findings “suggest that the consistently high levels of public trust and satisfaction with the AFP’s performance may be linked to public perceptions of its integrity, effective service delivery, and its apolitical and professional character as an institution.”
The respondents were also asked about issues related to the West Philippine Sea.
Majority or 83% of the respondents believed that the West Philippine Sea is vital to the country’s maritime rights and must be defended.
Meanwhile, 78% of the respondents said the AFP was able to protect the West Philippine Sea against external threats, while 80% backed the AFP’s continued security partnerships with other allies like the United States.
OCTA Research said these results may be a result of the AFP’s efforts in national defense and protection in the West Philippine Sea and its visible efforts in military modernization and humanitarian operations.
“The AFP’s consistently high trust and performance ratings reflect the public’s continuing demand for competent, professional, and apolitical institutions that deliver effective public service,” the poll firm said.
“These findings indicate a broad national consensus on the AFP’s critical role in defending national sovereignty and maritime interests, supported across geographic and socioeconomic groups,” it added.
The third quarter Tugon ng Masa was commissioned by the AFP and has a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level.
In a statement, the AFP welcomed the results of the poll, which they said showed “high levels of public trust and satisfaction toward the military organization.”
“The AFP leadership extends its gratitude to every soldier, airman, sailor, and marine whose professionalism and selfless service have earned the respect and trust of our people. Together with the Filipino people, the AFP will continue to build a strong, modern, and credible Armed Forces that our nation can always rely on,” it added. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
