Pasig court denies Quiboloy’s new plea for hospital arrest
A Pasig court has denied a new request of detained Pastor Apollo Quiboloy to be placed under hospital arrest.
In an order dated October 8, the Pasig Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 159 said it found no compelling reason to place Quiboloy under hospital arrest at either the Philippine Heart Center or the Medical City.
“The records clearly establish that his medical needs are being adequately and consistently attended to while in the custody of the Pasig City Jail, and that he continues to receive appropriate, timely, and sufficient medical care at the [hospital], under the supervision of competent medical professionals,” it said.
GMA News Online has asked Quiboloy’s camp for comment and will publish its response once available.
In his request, Quiboloy said he was experiencing persistent shortness of breath, accompanied by intermittent fever, muscle pain, and cough while in detention.
However, the RTC noted that Quiboloy was cleared by a hospital in September.
The Pasig RTC Branch 159 is handling the non-bailable qualified human trafficking charge under Section 4(a) of Republic Act No. 9208, as amended.
Meanwhile, the hearing today was moved to December 11.
Former Philippine National Police chief Nicolas Torre was expected to testify today.
In 2024, the Pasig court also denied an earlier plea of Quiboloy for hospital arrest.
The Davao City-based religious leader is also facing charges under Section 5(b) and Section 10(a) of Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act, with a QC court. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
