Marcos meets UN Secretary-General, says PH to champion climate action
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, wherein he made a commitment that the Philippines would continue to push for climate action in the region.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
''On the margins of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, I met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss key areas of cooperation. We reaffirmed our commitment to preserving peace and stability, economic growth, social development and equality,'' Marcos said.
''I conveyed that the Philippines will continue to be a champion of climate action and a reliable partner of the United Nations,'' he added.
The Philippine leader also looks forward to fostering bilateral cooperation and the UN’s continued support to ASEAN as well as the ASEAN - UN framework.
During the 46th ASEAN Summit in May, the Philippines committed to push for evidence-based solutions in addressing the impacts of climate change.
Marcos said climate change is the most defining and cross-cutting challenge of our time, adding that its unprecedented impact has the potential to disrupt communities and supply chains. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
