DMW monitoring online job postings amid illegal recruitment of Pinoys into scam hubs
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is monitoring postings of job vacancies online after more than 200 Filipinos recruited to work in scam farms in Myanmar have sought the government’s assistance for repatriation.
According to Ivan Mayrina’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday, the DMW is monitoring online postings of package tours and job opportunities supposedly in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.
Authorities have taken down at least 17,000 posts related to illegal recruitment and fake job opportunities on social media platforms.
The DMW and the Department of Information and Communications Technology are also coordinating with social media platforms like Facebook and TikTok. They have also filed charges against illegal recruiters.
The DMW also reminded aspiring overseas Filipino workers to be vigilant when looking for jobs abroad.
This is because some recruiters bring their victims to another place or country before taking them to the actual destination.
The agency also warned the public against being duped by recruiters who are unauthorized by the DMW to facilitate the recruitment and deployment of Filipinos for jobs abroad. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/JMA, GMA Integrated News
