Cop killed in Cebu City gun attack; P500K reward offered
The police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Tuesday said a P500,000-reward is being offered for information that will lead to the capture of suspects in the death of a police officer in Cebu City.
"A total of P500,000 monetary reward will be given for individuals who can give information leading to the location and capture of the at-large suspects," CIDG spokesperson Police Major Helen dela Cruz said in a press briefing.
"The reward was given by the local government unit of Cebu City, the regional director of Police Regional Office 7, and an anonymous person," she added.
On October 25, Police Captain Joel Deiparine and Police Executive Master Sergeant Artchel Tero were conducting casing and surveillance operations against gun-for-hire suspects in Cebu City.
The cops were following the suspects' vehicle when the latter stopped and gunmen attacked using long firearms, according to the CIDG.
"Deiparine was fatally hit in the different parts of his body—and unfortunately succumbed to death. Tero managed to withdraw from the burst of fire, sustaining minor injuries," the CIDG said.
The Medalya ng Kadakilaan (Philippine National Police Heroism Medal) was conferred to Deiparine for courageously standing his ground and valiantly performing his sworn duty, ultimately sacrificing his life in the line of duty, according to the CIDG.
Special Financial Assistance under the Republic Act 6963 and the PSMBFI Partial Payment for Death Claims were given to the widow of the fallen officer, the CIDG added. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
