NAPOLCOM: Garma's ex-husband facing admin charges over 'ill-gotten wealth'
Police Colonel Roland Vilela is facing administrative charges for allegedly receiving money from his ex-wife, former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office general manager Royina Garma, the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) said Tuesday.
NAPOLCOM’s Inspection Monitoring and Investigation Service (IMIS) filed the administrative charges against Vilela before the Commission’s Legal Affairs Service after finding “probable cause.”
“Ang nature po ng offense na finile ng NAPOLCOM are two counts for grave misconduct and two counts of conduct unbecoming of a police officer, and of course, for grave neglect of duty,” IMIS Staff Service Director Edman Pares said in a press conference before the filing.
According to him, the charges came from the NAPOLCOM’s motu proprio investigation.
Pares said another police officer served as a witness before a House hearing and said that Vilela allegedly served as a “middleman” to encash and transfer money.
“So pinapakita po din dito yung pagkakaroon ng respondent ng ill-gotten wealth at kung paano niya ginamit yung pera na ill-gotten na may tama. So tinitignan din natin yung anti-money laundering na violation,” Pares said.
(So this also shows the respondent's possession of ill-gotten wealth and how he used the ill-gotten money. So we are also looking at the anti-money laundering violation.)
