Who is NBI officer-in-charge Angelito Magno?

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Angelito “Lito” Magno as the officer-in-charge (OIC) of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) following the resignation of director Jaime Santiago.

Prior to being appointed as OIC, Magno served as the NBI Assistant Director for Legal Service. He started working in the NBI in April 1991 and climbed to the rank of director in March 2010.

During his time in the NBI, he investigated the killing of late Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and others on March 4, 2023 at his residence in Pamplona, Negros Oriental.

He also investigated the oil spill caused by the sinking of the MT Princess Empress in Oriental Mindoro in 2023 and the case of Socorro Bayanihan Services Inc. (SBSI) president Jey Rence Quilario or Senior Agila.

Aside from this, Magno investigated extra-judicial killings of lawyers, politicians, and journalists and other killings.

He also led or supported the investigation into the case against Australian pedophile Peter Scully, known as one of the world’s most notorious pedophiles; the 2010 probe that resulted in the shootout with Jason Ivler; and the arrest of Bamban Mayor Alice Guo.

Magno earned his law degree from the University of San Carlos in Cebu.

In August, Santiago resigned from his post, saying that "detractors and those who have sinister interest" in his position have "incessantly" made moves to besmirch his reputation.

On Monday, he said Marcos accepted his irrevocable resignation.
