Majority of Filipinos trust, satisfied with PCG — OCTA survey

Most adult Filipinos trust and are satisfied with the performance of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), according to a survey conducted by OCTA Research.

Based on the recent Tugon ng Masa survey, OCTA said that 75% of their survey respondents were very satisfied with PCG’s recent performance over the past 3 months.

Majority of the respondents were based in the National Capital Region with 82%, with the lowest satisfaction rankings recorded in Balance Luzon at 72%.

Only 4% of the respondents said they were unsatisfied with the PCG’s performance.

“These findings confirm that the PCG enjoys broad public approval, particularly in coastal regions where its operations are most visible. Satisfaction appears to be shaped by both regional exposure and perceived responsiveness, especially in areas affected by maritime incidents or geopolitical tensions,” the study noted.

Meanwhile, PCG also garnered majority trust from the respondents with 71%.

There were 24% who shared that they were undecided, while 5% of the respondents shared that they distrusted the agency.

Highest trust ratings were gathered in NCR with 82%, while the lowest trust ratings were from respondents in Balance Luzon with 61%.

“These findings suggest that trust in the PCG correlates strongly with visibility and exposure to maritime security and disaster response operations, as confidence tends to increase in regions where the PCG’s presence is more evident,” the study added.

OCTA noted that opinions pertaining to the PCG were influenced by their performance relating to the territorial disputes occurring at the West Philippine Sea, and public perception on their roles in maritime security, and disaster response.

“The Q3 2025 Tugon ng Masa Survey highlights the PCG’s position as one of the country’s most trusted and best-performing institutions, widely perceived as professional and mission-driven. Its consistent visibility in maritime safety, disaster response, and the protection of the West Philippine Sea continues to strengthen its credibility and public esteem, cementing its role as a vital force for national resilience and security,” it shared.

Data used in the study was gathered through face-to-face interviews of 1,200 respondents from September 25 to 30, 2025.

The survey, which was non-commissioned, had a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
