DOE ensures stable power supply during Undas 2025

The Department of Energy (DOE) on Wednesday assured the public that the country’s power supply is stable and secure throughout the observance of the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day holidays.

In a statement, the DOE said it is closely coordinating with power generation companies, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), and distribution utilities, including electric cooperatives, to maintain uninterrupted power supply throughout the holiday period.

The Energy Department added that contingency measures are in place to address potential demand surges or localized disruptions.

It said that the NGCP and distribution utilities will maintain “heightened vigilance” and deploy technical personnel to respond promptly to any power-related issues.

Further, the DOE said it is also coordinating with petroleum retailers to maintain adequate fuel inventories and ensure efficient operations at gasoline stations along major routes, while actively monitoring fuel prices to protect consumers from unfair practices.

The Energy Department likewise called on the public to practice energy efficiency, whether at home, on the road, or at cemeteries.

“Undas is a time for reflection, remembrance, and family unity,” said Mario Marasigan, Supervising Undersecretary of the DOE’s Energy Utilization Management Bureau (EUMB).

“As we pay our respects to those who have passed, let us also honor them by embracing energy conservation and making choices that secure a brighter future for all Filipinos,” added Marasigan.

The agency told the public that before leaving home for an extended period, unplug unused appliances to reduce “phantom load,” and inspect electrical connections for damage.

The public was also advised to promptly address loose or frayed wires to help prevent short circuits and other fire hazards that could endanger lives and property.

For travelers, the DOE called for strategic trip planning to avoid peak traffic, ensure vehicle maintenance for fuel efficiency, and consider carpooling or public transport.

For those who are driving electric vehicles (EV), the agency said there are a total of 1,223 publicly accessible charging points nationwide as of October 2025, with 706 located in the National Capital Region, 268 in North and South Luzon, 221 in Visayas, and 28 in Mindanao.

At cemeteries, the DOE encouraged the public to use energy-efficient lighting such as LED candles or solar lamps, and to dispose of batteries and e-waste properly to support a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Undas. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
