Quiapo Church unveils Traslacion 2026 logo, theme

The Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno, commonly known as Quiapo Church, has unveiled the logo and theme for Traslacion 2026, which highlights the virtues of praise, humility, and faith.

The 2026 feast is themed "Dapat Siyang Tumaas at Ako nama'y Bumaba" (He must become  greater; I must become less), which is based on the book of John.

The Quiapo Church said the elements of the logo demonstrate how to praise Jesus Christ, not just during the Traslacion, but also in every Catholic's life through faith and humility.

Pagpupuri (Dapat Siyang Tumaas…)

At the center of the logo, devotees are seen lifting an image of Jesus Nazareno.

The Quiapo Church said it is a clear declaration that He alone is worthy to be honored and praised, not only through devotion and prayer, but also in serving others.

The light emanating from the image of Jesus Nazareno symbolizes his holiness, which, despite being overshadowed by the weight of the crosses and struggles, continues to bring guidance and hope to humble hearts.

The carrying of the image of Jesus Nazareno teaches devotees that in life, the more times Jesus is honored, the more people come to know Him.

Kababaang-loob (...at ako nama'y bumaba)

This part of the verse shows that through intentional "lowering" or humbling of oneself, Jesus Christ is exalted, as seen in the two devotees who are carrying the image of Jesus Nazareno.

The act of carrying by the devotees clearly signifies humility, an essential quality of a true follower of Jesus Christ.

Humility serves as the wisdom for deepening others' knowledge of Jesus Christ, the Quiapo Church said.

Devotees' sacrifice, effort, and patience amid their own burden further elevate and honor God, the church said.

Meanwhile, the child in the logo serves as a reminder of Matthew 18:4, which states, "Whoever humbles himself like a little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

Pananampalataya (Dapat Siyang Tumaas at ako nama'y Bumaba)

The theme of Traslacion 2026 is centered on the Catholic faith, Quiapo Church said.

The white cloth in the logo symbolizes all the white handkerchiefs that are used to wipe on the image of Jesus Nazareno. This tradition serves as a reminder of the deep devotion and hope of every devotee.

Meanwhile, the rope that surrounds the white cloth exhibits how collective faith and the procession strengthen faith.

The image of the Quiapo Church in the logo symbolizes the strong Filipino faith, which is rooted in humility and honor for Jesus Christ.

"Sa bawat elemento ay naipapakita na ang ating debosyon sa Poong Hesus Nazareno ay umiikot sa pagpupuri, kababaang-Loob, at pananampalataya — mga pagpapahalagang isinasabuhay ng bawat deboto hindi lamang sa Traslacion kundi sa buhay disipulo," the Quiapo Church said.

(Every element shows that our devotion to Jesus Nazareno is rooted in praise, humility, and faith, qualities that devotees live out not just during the Traslacion, but in their daily life as the Lord's disciples.)

Celebrated every January 9, the Traslacion commemorates the transfer of the image of Jesus Nazareno from the San Nicolas de Tolentino Church in Intramuros to Quiapo Church in the 1700s.

Last January, more than 8 million devotees of Jesus Nazareno participated in one of the longest processions in recent memory, which lasted for 20 hours, 45 minutes, and four seconds. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
